Why choose Copper River School District
Correspondence Program?
FLEXIBILITY & CHOICE

You can pick from a number of pre-approved curriculum options or you can design a program of your own with the aide of an advisor who is also a state certified teacher.  With a parent designed program you get the opportunity for one on one in person time to develop a program that meets both your curricular needs and Alaska State Standards.  After your program is developed you will meet again on a quarterly basis to assess the student’s portfolio and assign grades for your child’s permanent record.

LIBRARY

Make use of our Libraries.  We have computers, internet, and printing available, and a great selection of books & research.

SPORTS

K-12 students can take part in district sponsored sports.  Out-of-district activity fees are waived.  Other fees and expectations are the same as those required of all students.  All students must show proof of insurance, provide a current physical, and maintain three week grade eligibility checks.

High School Sports
High school sports requirements are defined by the Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA).  Please note:  ASAA requires that students be enrolled in no less than four courses per semester and must have successfully completed four courses the previous semester.  These courses can be in school or through a district approved correspondence program, or a combination of both.  Students enrolled with out-of-district programs are not eligible to play high school sports.

Ø      ACTIVITIES & EVENTS

Our Web page is currently under construction and soon you will be able to check our Web Page for activities and events you may want to participate in and support.

Ø      WORKSHOPS

The District will be offering opportunities for parents to attend work shops and to meet many of the same speakers the district has hired for its Teacher In-Service Programs.

Ø      LOCAL TESTING

College entrance exams and military vocational tests are offered through the district.  Provisions are made for all achievement testing including Benchmarks, Terra Nova, and High School Exit exams.  Dates are published on our web site and in the district quarterly communicator.

  DUAL ENROLLMENT

Students can take welding, shop, music, and more at their local high school in conjunction with the correspondence program.

Ø      ALLOTMENT

The District offers $1800 for each full time correspondence student, per school year, to be used for the purchase of curriculum and curriculum related materials.  Increased benefits are available for dual enrolled students that live within the CRSD boundary.  Part time student allotment is adjusted accordingly.  Ask for details.

If you are interested in talking with some parents who have been on our advisory committee and have experience at designing their own program we have some families that would be happy to answer your questions. Simply email your questions to us and we will pass them on. Someone will then be in touch with you. Keep in mind, the parent designed program option is only available for families within the Copper River School District boundaries who can come in and meet with an advisory teacher on a quarterly basis. email Lanette Phillips with your questions
